It also provides data for diabetes-related mortality and healthcare expenditures, and addresses current issues such as the need for investment in diabetes prevention and management programmes, and the challenges of containing the diabetes epidemic. In addition, critical issues such as trends in diabetes in the young, diabetes and depression, and the global monitoring of the quality of care are reviewed.
